Reconstructed Transportation Hub Undergoes Remodeling
In the heart of Salt Lake City, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has undergone a significant transformation in its Traffic Operations Center. At the forefront of this change is the AVPro Edge MXnet 1G, a crucial component in the new video technology setup.
The MXnet 1G, an Audio Video over Internet Protocol (AVoIP) ecosystem, plays a pivotal role in streaming and managing video signals over a 1 Gigabit Ethernet network. This innovative technology facilitates the distribution and switching of high-quality video feeds from traffic cameras and other video sources throughout the center.
One of the key advantages of MXnet 1G is its near-zero latency multicast routing, ensuring efficient live monitoring of traffic conditions and seamless management of video content across multiple displays and workstations. This enhances situational awareness and operational responsiveness, crucial factors in managing traffic flow effectively.
The MXnet 1G encoders and decoders are highly efficient, each siphoning less than 5 operational watts from the power grid. They are fan-free and noise-free, making them ideal for a busy operations center. The strategic use of the metal chassis frame and a top-mounted heatsink ensures they run cool, adding to their efficiency.
MXnet is compatible with popular remote monitoring software, such as OvrC, and supports gen-locking, stabilizing video system operation by syncing all decoders to a source.
The new system includes a three-screen array with a large main display and two auxiliary screens, all powered by the tvONE CORIOmaster2 video wall processor, which generates a seamless video design canvas from the MXnet 1G decoders.
AVPro Edge, TVS Pro, and Dalton Parker were involved in the project, with TVS Pro choosing MXnet 1G for its customized solutions and shared customer-centric philosophy. TVS Pro offers a hassle-free, 10-year warranty and award-winning tech support, ensuring the smooth operation of the new system.
Since the transformation, the UDOT Traffic Operations Center has been operating trouble-free for more than nine months. It monitors more than 1,700 traffic cameras for signs of incidents, providing operators with real-time data to manage traffic effectively.
This innovative setup is a testament to the power of collaborative technology, bringing together the expertise of AVPro Edge, TVS Pro, and Dalton Parker to create a more efficient, responsive, and reliable traffic management system for the Utah Department of Transportation.
