Revised Topstone Carbon model from Cannondale features a more relaxed geometry, expansive tire clearance, and integrated downtube storage
Cannondale has unveiled the newest iteration of their popular gravel bike, the Topstone Carbon. This all-rounder has undergone significant updates, enhancing its versatility and performance.
A Wide Range of Models and Components
The frame offering spans across four different models, each equipped with components from renowned manufacturers such as Shimano and SRAM. The Topstone 2, available in three versions, features Shimano components for the gear shift, with options for both 1x and mechanical 2x groupsets (courtesy of Shimano GRX).
The range-topping Ltd model boasts Shimano's 12-speed GRX 825 Di2 groupset, while the Topstone 1 model comes with a SRAM Rival / Eagle GX AXS 12-speed groupset and Lefty Oliver suspension forks.
Improved Suspension and Tyre Clearance
The Topstone's front and rear suspension features remain, including the KingPin system and the Lefty Oliver fork (on the Topstone Carbon 1 model). The Lefty Oliver fork delivers 40mm of travel, 10mm more than the previous model, providing a smoother ride over rough terrains.
The newest Topstone can accommodate tyres as wide as 52mm at the rear and either 56mm with the rigid carbon fork or 47mm with the Lefty fork, offering excellent traction and comfort.
Enhanced Aesthetics and Functionality
The bike boasts a cleaner silhouette due to fully integrated cables across the frameset and the inclusion of Cannondale's Conceal stem. This not only improves the bike's aesthetics but also reduces cable friction for smoother shifting.
The frame includes a removable fender bridge, adding to its versatility, and a Universal Derailleur Hanger for easy maintenance. The frame also features Cannondale's StashPort storage system, designed to hold ride essentials like tyre levers, a small multi-tool, and a tubeless repair kit.
Frame and Geometry Tuning
Each frame size is 'tuned' individually using Cannondale's 'Proportional Response Construction', including the geometry and the carbon layup used. This ensures a perfect fit for every rider, enhancing comfort and control.
The frame offers a BSA 68mm threaded bottom bracket and has the option to run an internally-routed 27.2mm dropper post, providing added control on steep descents.
Handlebar and Stem Variations
The alloy stem is included across different build options, while the handlebar specification varies between the four model choices. The range-topping Ltd uses Easton's EC90 AX carbon bars, while the entry level 3 relies on Cannondale's own alloy bars with a 16-degree flare.
The bike also has the option to run an internally-routed 27.2mm dropper post, providing added control on steep descents.
In conclusion, the updated Topstone Carbon retains features such as the Lefty suspension fork option and the rear KingPin suspension system, while introducing improvements in suspension travel, tyre clearance, and aesthetics. With a wide range of models and components, the Topstone Carbon caters to riders of all skill levels and preferences, making it an excellent choice for gravel riding enthusiasts.
