Samsung's Green Vision in Vietnam: Harnessing Solar Power for Sustainability
Samsung begins construction on solar power system installed on building's rooftop
In the heart of bustling HCM City, Samsung Electronics made waves last Friday by starting construction on a sprawling rooftop solar power system with a whopping 28MWp capacity. This ambitious project is a significant stride in Samsung's eco-friendly roadmap and demonstrates their commitment to social responsibility in Vietnam.
Beyond its technological implications, this project radiates a powerful message about Samsung's forward-thinking vision - building an industry that coexists harmoniously with the environment and society. When fully operational, this system will cater to approximately a quarter of the electricity requirements of Samsung Electronics HCMC CE Complex Co Ltd (SEHC), all while operating under the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism.
This initiative is a substantial step towards Samsung's objective of attaining 100% renewable energy in manufacturing and reaching carbon neutrality by 2027, three years ahead of the group's global RE100 target.
ChoonKi Kwon, the General Director of SEHC, expresses the project's significance beyond just an energy project: "This marks the beginning of a comprehensive transformation where technology serves not only operational efficiency but also the sustainable development of people and society."
As a global power player, Samsung recognizes its environmental and social responsibilities. Through its inaugural rooftop solar endeavor at SEHC, Samsung reaffirms its pioneering role in driving the green revolution, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, preserving ecosystems, and uplifting quality of life.
This project unfolds in partnership with TotalEnergies ENEOS, underscoring a mutual dedication to renewable energy and sustainable growth in Southeast Asia.
Alexandru Buzatu, the General Director of TotalEnergies ENEOS for the Asia-Pacific region, extols their collaboration with Samsung in Vietnam: "We are immensely proud to be Samsung's green energy ally in Vietnam. With our vast global experience, TotalEnergies ENEOS stands committed to aiding Samsung in satiating its energy needs while bolstering the transition to clean energy across Southeast Asia."
Beyond its clean energy investment, Samsung SEHC is striving to cultivate environmental consciousness among its employees and associates, aiming for enduring environmental and community impact.
Kwon concludes optimistically: "With determination, unity, and a clear vision, we believe this project will not only thrive but also consistently deliver significant value to the environment, community, and society at large."

This venture in Vietnam is far from Samsung's only rooftop solar endeavor; elsewhere in the country, they have launched a 2.38 MWp project in the Yen Phong Industrial Park, Bac Ninh province, in partnership with CME Solar Investment. This initiative is slated to yield 2.59 million kWh of clean electricity annually, reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 2,460 tons yearly.
Similarly, the Bac Ninh project plays a pivotal role in Samsung’s sustainable development strategy and underscores Samsung’s role in promoting sustainable practices within the industrial sector, contributing to greener skies for Vietnam and aiding its transition to a low-emission economy.
