Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge preview hints at an enhanced device with the Elite 2 version

In a significant development for the smartphone industry, reliable leaks and benchmarks have confirmed that Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S26 Edge will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC. This confirmation comes from a Geekbench listing for the US variant of the S26 Edge (model SM-S947U), which reveals the device running on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip with 12GB of RAM and Android 16 (One UI 8.0).

The benchmark scores, 3,393 single-core and 11,515 multi-core points, suggest a performance uplift compared to the previous S25 Edge running the Snapdragon 8 Elite. These scores reflect Samsung's continued commitment to delivering top-tier performance in its flagship devices.

Rumors have been circulating about the potential changes in Samsung's Galaxy S series lineup for 2026. It is speculated that the company might drop the Plus model, consolidating the series to just three phones: the S26, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra. This would mark a shift from the traditional inclusion of a Plus variant in the Galaxy S series.

The Galaxy S26 Edge is also rumored to be even thinner due to new battery technology, and it is speculated that its performance during launch could be better than its predecessors. Samsung's head of foundry, Han Jin-man, is allegedly awaiting a green light to move forward with the development of a 2nm process chip for the S26 series.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to have two cores at 4.74GHz and six cores at 3.63GHz, offering significant performance improvements. The Geekbench listing suggests that the CPU speed listed for the S26 Edge was .74GHz lower than the listed speed for the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.

These developments promise an exciting future for Samsung's Galaxy S series, with the S26 Edge set to deliver improved performance and innovative features. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the launch of the Galaxy S26 series.
