Shopify's Summer Updates '25: What's Changing?
Shopify Summer '25 Edition: Enhancing User Experience and Streamlining Checkout Process
Shopify, a leading digital commerce platform, has unveiled its Summer '25 Edition, focusing on improving user experience (UX) for both merchants and customers. This update brings a host of new features designed to make shopping more seamless and efficient.
One of the key improvements is the introduction of store credit, allowing refunds to be issued as store credit directly from the admin panel. This feature enables customers to use their refunds immediately, without the need for additional steps.
Shoppers can now enter their promo codes directly in the cart, making the checkout process more straightforward. Additionally, customers can view and use their store credit in the Shop app and during Shop Pay checkout, providing more flexibility for shoppers.
Liquid, Shopify's templating language, can now be used to show store credit in marketing emails or on-site, offering merchants more control over how they present this new feature to their customers.
The checkout process has been further optimised, with customers able to start checking out 2 seconds faster. This speed improvement aims to reduce cart abandonment and improve conversion rates.
In addition to these customer-facing improvements, the admin panel now loads up to 30% faster, improving productivity for merchants. The updated editor features a simplified sidebar, custom names for blocks and sections, hover-to-preview, more interactive product cards, and faster copy and paste of blocks and sections.
Shopify has also expanded its support for Apple Pay, allowing merchants to offer this popular payment method while maintaining their custom checkout flows.
The platform's updated analytics dashboard includes benchmarks and a new Customer Cohort Analysis report, providing merchants with valuable insights into their customer behaviour. New web performance reports are available for optimising Core Web Vitals, ensuring websites load quickly and smoothly.
Shopify has partnered with LTIMindtree to establish an AI-Commerce Center of Excellence, suggesting ongoing advancements in AI and commerce technology. This partnership could lead to further improvements and innovations in the future.
To help merchants make the most of these new features, Shopify has provided a free brief template to avoid miscommunication headaches, scope creep, expectation misalignment, and brand inconsistency. Additionally, a tailored upgrade guide is available to enhance post-purchase pages without breaking the current setup.
