Siemens Wins €280M Adif Contract for High-Speed Rail Signaling

Adif has awarded a significant contract worth around €280 million to a consortium led by Siemens. The project involves the supply, installation, and 20-year maintenance of advanced signaling and telecommunications systems for the high-speed rail line between Albacete and Alicante. This is the first high-speed equipment contract awarded by Adif under a public-private partnership (PPP). Notably, the project will feature a standalone ERTMS level 2 signaling system, a first for high-speed lines in the region.

Siemens, the global leader in ERTMS level 2 technology, has equipped six out of the ten lines currently using this system. The company's President, Henri Poupart-Lafarge, expressed confidence in their technology, stating it optimizes operational performance while reducing maintenance costs. The consortium, led by Siemens, will be responsible for overall project coordination, system architecture, and the supply, installation, and maintenance of the ERTMS signaling system.

The market scope is extensive, encompassing the design, installation, and maintenance of the signaling system, fixed communication system, centralized traffic control, safety equipment, automatic train protection (ATP) equipment, mobile GSM-R communication equipment, and infrastructure for mobile operators.

The standalone ERTMS level 2 signaling system on the Albacete-Alicante high-speed line, a first for the region, is expected to enhance safety and efficiency. Siemens' involvement, given their global leadership in ERTMS level 2 technology, ensures state-of-the-art systems. The 20-year maintenance contract ensures long-term reliability and performance.
