Dynamic Compact SUV: Skoda Elroq RS Strikes a Balance Between Power and Comfort
Skoda's Elroq RS model combines sporty performance with a comfortable ride experience.
Chat with us about the latest electric vehicle offering from Skoda - the Elroq RS. This compact SUV brings high performance to the table without compromising on everyday usability. let's dive into the details!
Skoda Elroq RS stands out as the sporty variant of their compact electric SUV, fitting snugly within the Volkswagen Group's lineup. It measures 4.49 meters in length, positioning it neatly between the ID.4 and Tavascan from VW, and the ID.3 and Born from Cupra. With its extensive standard equipment package, the RS delivers a balance between sporty agility and practical everyday performance.
Priced at 53,050 euros in Germany, the 340-horsepower Elroq RS may no longer be considered a budget option. However, it offers double the power of the 20,000 euros cheaper entry-level Elroq 50 Tour.
Exceptional Powertrain and Suspension
Equipped with twin electric motors producing a combined 250 kW (340 PS) and 679 Nm of torque, the all-wheel-drive system ensures instant traction, allowing the Elroq RS to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. During our test drive in the Czech Republic, we were impressed by the powerful acceleration on both country roads and highways. While some competitors' sport versions may offer over 500 PS, the Elroq RS still delivers remarkable performance.
One of the highlights of the Elroq RS is its well-tuned suspension system. The direct and precise progressive steering offers less sensitivity at high speeds, making for a secure driving experience. The adaptive DCC suspension, exclusive to the RS variant, enhances the overall driving experience even further. The difference between sport and comfort modes is significant; while driving in the firm sport mode, road imperfections are noticeable, but in the comfort setting, the SUV provides a much smoother ride. Despite its considerable weight of over 2.2 tons, the RS tends to understeer during especially sporty driving.
Range and Charging
The Elroq RS's generous 79 kWh battery provides a range of 549 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. The DC fast-charging capability is impressive, charging the battery from 10 to 80% in just 26 minutes. During our test drive, we achieved a combined consumption of around 20 kWh, which is higher than the WLTP's estimated consumption of 16.4-17.2 kWh.
Design and Comfort
Skoda emphasizes the Elroq RS's sporty character with subtle design elements. Black accents on the roof rail, exterior mirrors, and window frames, along with RS-specific front and rear bumpers, add to the SUV's assertive appearance without being overly ostentatious. Its standard 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels further enhance the dynamic look without appearing gaudy.
The interior features a digital cockpit with a 5-inch instrument display and a 13-inch infotainment screen. Lime-green contrast stitching and carbon-fiber decor inserts may not be to everyone's taste, but the driver's electrically adjustable seat with massage and memory functions, as well as a lumbar support, ensure a comfortable driving experience. The driver's view is enhanced by a standard head-up display with an augmented reality function, which projects relevant information directly into the driver's field of view.
Modern driver assistance systems support the driver in critical situations, including route planning, navigation, and even charging schedules. The sound system, developed by Canton, offers 12 speakers for powerful music playback.
The electric comfort opening enables the tailgate to access the trunk, which offers 470 liters of cargo space. With the rear seats folded down, up to 1580 liters can be loaded. The Elroq RS's impressive towing capacity of up to 1400 kilograms allows it to handle most trailers. However, the swiveling trailer hitch must be purchased as an optional extra.
