In a surprising turn of events, the cryptocurrency market has seen a significant shift in focus, with Solana (SOL) taking centre stage. The digital asset, known for its high-performance blockchain, has experienced an unexpected surge in price, which has also contributed to a surge in search interest for Solana.

According to Google Trends data, Solana received a search interest score of 100 from December 24 to December 30, representing peak popularity for the term Solana. This score surpasses the search interest for Ethereum, marking the first time Solana has outshone its long-standing rival in this regard.

The surge in Solana's search interest can primarily be attributed to the memecoin BONK. The search volume for Solana has risen following a spike in SOL price and increased ecosystem activity. Interestingly, the project or team responsible for the development of BONK is not explicitly named in the search results, suggesting a community-driven or decentralized development approach.

BONK gained massively from November to its peak in mid-December, contributing to Solana's overall growth. It's worth noting that people who searched for Solana on Google have also shown interest in BONK and Tensor, a Solana-based NFT marketplace.

SOL is currently trading at $108, reflecting a yearly gain of 1050%, according to data from Coinmarketcap. The SOL price has risen from nearly $21 on October 1 to peaking over $124 on December 25, recording a gain of over 490%.

This change in the cryptocurrency landscape is a testament to the growing interest and adoption of Solana and its ecosystem. As we move forward, it will be interesting to see how this trend continues to unfold.
