Solar power development commences at the 150MW Rock Creek Solar Project in Iowa
The Rock Creek Solar Project, a large-scale renewable energy development, has commenced in Clinton and Camanche, Clinton County, Iowa. This project, led by NextEra Energy Resources, one of the largest generators of renewable energy from wind and solar in North America, is expected to deliver up to 150MW of clean, American-made solar power upon completion.
Spanning multiple sites, the project's infrastructure will integrate advanced solar technology to maximize efficiency. At its heart are advanced photovoltaic solar panels, coupled with a battery storage system boasting a capacity of 100MW. This battery energy storage system will enhance grid reliability, ensuring a steady supply of power.
The estimated cost of the US$320 million Rock Creek Solar Project places it among NextEra Energy Resources' significant investments in renewable energy. Once completed, the project is expected to supply enough electricity to power nearly 30,000 homes. Commercial operations for the Rock Creek Solar Project are targeted for December 2026.
Besides the Rock Creek Solar Project, NextEra Energy Resources has developed several other major solar projects across the United States. In Oregon, the Wheatridge Renewable Energy Facilities co-locate wind, solar, and battery storage, representing a significant utility-scale solar and energy storage development integrated with wind power.
In Louisiana, NextEra Energy Resources partnered with DEMCO to launch a 100MW solar farm in Tangipahoa Parish. In Colorado, the company operates four solar energy facilities, underscoring a diversified renewable portfolio in that state.
NextEra Energy Resources is actively expanding its solar and storage portfolio as part of its broader plan to invest $120 billion in renewables and storage through 2029, aiming to grow its generation fleet across multiple states with substantial new solar capacity added recently.
Local landowner Boysen, owner of MKJ Farms, has committed 220 acres of his farmland for the development of the Rock Creek Solar Project. This project, along with the Goldfinch Solar Project in Iowa, is part of NextEra Energy Resources' growing commitment to renewable energy in the Midwest.
