Sony Introduces Market-ready LiDAR Depth Sensor for Commercial Applications

DIMINUTIVE LIDAR DEPTH SENSOR UNVEILED - In a groundbreaking development, Sony Electronics has launched the AS-DT1 LiDAR depth sensor, a compact, lightweight device measuring 1.14 x 1.14 x 1.22 inches, ideal for devices with space and weight constraints.

This 1.76-ounce LiDAR depth sensor utilizes cutting-edge Direct Time of Flight (dToF) LiDAR technology, ensuring quick and accurate measurements, distance resolution, and measuring range. The device's proprietary dToF ranging module, powered by a Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) sensor, employs multiple ranging points for distance measurement, making it possible to accurately measure distances in three dimensions: length, width, and depth.

The AS-DT1 is capable of detecting low-contrast subjects and objects with low reflectivity, even in challenging environments, a quality that sets it apart from other ranging methods. This ability allows for precise measurement of distances in diverse settings.

Designed with a lightweight, robust aluminum housing, the AS-DT1 boasts a simple design that facilitates integration into a wide array of devices. Sony's proprietary dToF ranging module delivers highly accurate measurements and distance resolution, even at various distances - for instance, it can accurately measure distances of about 32.8 feet, indoors and outdoors, with an error margin of approximately two inches.
