Sony's Virtual Production Tool Set Gets Major Update at IBC 2025

Sony Electronics is set to unveil significant updates to its Virtual Production Tool Set. Version 3.0 will debut at IBC 2025 in Hall 13, following the launch of Version 2.0 later this year. The tool set, which includes Camera and Display Plugin and Color Calibrator, has seen enhancements in camera support and virtual production capabilities.

Color Calibrator, a component of the tool set, now supports calibration for new camera models and offers a user guide function. This update ensures that users can maintain accurate color reproduction across their workflow. Notably, creating and exporting calibration LUTs in Color Calibrator requires a paid license.

The upcoming Version 2.0, due in winter 2024 and showcased at IBC 2024, introduces support for Epic Games' Unreal VCam. This feature enables intuitive camera control using an iPad, streamlining virtual production processes. Additionally, Camera and Display Plugin now supports a range of broadcast and cinema cameras, including BURANO, FR7, HDC-3500, HDC-5500, and HDC-F5500.

Live Camera Sync, a paid license feature, facilitates instant reflection of VENICE camera and lens settings in Unreal Engine. This allows for real-time synchronization between physical cameras and virtual environments, enhancing workflow efficiency.

Sony Electronics' Virtual Production Tool Set continues to evolve, with Version 2.0 bringing enhanced camera support and intuitive iPad-based camera control. The upcoming Version 3.0, set for release in winter 2025, promises further advancements in virtual production capabilities, with a showcase planned at IBC 2025 in Hall 13.
