Space venture Axiom Space teams up with Indian rocket company Skyroot Aerospace to propel space exploration forward
In a significant move for the space industry, American company Axiom Space and India's leading private space launch service provider, Skyroot Aerospace, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on space exploration and access to low-Earth orbit (LEO).
Axiom Space, positioned as a leader in LEO, is laying the foundation for the construction and operation of Axiom Station, a U.S. space station. The company is now considering utilizing Skyroot's capabilities for groundbreaking research payloads and orbital data center nodes.
Skyroot Aerospace, known for its mission to make access to space affordable, reliable, and on-demand, is preparing to launch its maiden orbital-class launch vehicle, Vikram-1. This collaboration between the two companies aims to serve the growing space ecosystem in India and globally.
The shared vision between Axiom Space and Skyroot Aerospace to transform access to space is crucial for their partnership. Axiom Space's CEO expresses his excitement about the potential partnership, believing it will define humanity's future in space. Similarly, Skyroot's CEO, Pawan Kumar Chandana, states that enabling equitable access to space is the company's guiding mantra.
The partnership will explore opportunities for integrated launch and orbital solutions, focusing on era-defining space infrastructure projects. This collaboration reinforces the growing cooperation between Axiom Space and the Indian space sector.
The collaboration was announced after Axiom Space's successful Ax-4 mission, which marked India's return to human spaceflight and the nation's first mission on board the International Space Station. This mission underscores how Axiom Space is redefining the pathway to LEO and fueling a vibrant space economy for the benefit of every human, everywhere.
Skyroot Aerospace made history in 2022 when it successfully launched Vikram-S, making it the first private space-tech company to partner with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The company is now gearing up for the launch of Vikram-1, which is designed as an orbital-class rocket for satellite launches.
This partnership between Axiom Space and Skyroot Aerospace promises to bring about groundbreaking advancements in space exploration and access, benefiting both India and international markets.
