Taiwan Showcases Marine Waste Recycling Innovations at Circular Economy Expo in Japan

The Circular Economy Expo, one of Japan's leading circular economy exhibitions, is currently underway in Chiba Prefecture. This year, the expo is focusing on resource recycling, sustainable materials, and circular design, attracting more than 500 companies from around the world. Among them, a delegation led by the Ocean Affairs Council of Taiwan is presenting Taiwan's innovations in marine waste recycling.

Kuan Bi-ling, head of the Ocean Affairs Council, made a video call to international partners on the eve of the expo's opening, expressing Taiwan's determination to transform the 'marine waste challenge' into a 'circular opportunity.' The council is leading a delegation of nine Taiwanese companies to the expo, including Far Eastern New Century and Sun Jen Textile.

These participating companies will showcase products made from marine waste fibers and other recycled materials. For instance, clothing made from recycled materials will be on display, demonstrating the potential of sustainable fashion. Other recycled material applications will also be showcased, highlighting the versatility and innovation in Taiwan's marine waste recycling industry.

Taiwan's marine partners have achieved concrete results in promoting marine sustainability, as stated by Kuan Bi-ling. The council is showcasing these achievements at the expo, with a particular focus on the Indo-Pacific Regional Marine Debris Collaboration Platform. This platform, being promoted by the Ocean Affairs Council, aims to collaborate with Japan and other international partners to address the issue of marine debris in the region.

Kuan Bi-ling also stated that sustainability concepts have been integrated into daily life in Taiwan. She expressed her hope that Taiwan's innovations in marine waste recycling would inspire other countries to adopt similar practices and work towards a more sustainable future.

Representatives from the Marine Affairs Advisory Committee participate alongside others at the Circular Economy Expo in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. The theme of the expo is 'Taiwan Ocean Circular Hub,' reflecting Taiwan's commitment to circular economy principles and marine sustainability.

The council made a statement regarding the video call, expressing its gratitude for the support and collaboration from international partners. The Ocean Affairs Council will continue promoting the Indo-Pacific Regional Marine Debris Collaboration Platform with Japan and other international partners, working towards a cleaner and more sustainable future for the Indo-Pacific region.
