Tech giant BMW grants five-year IT operations agreement to Infosys
In a strategic move to bolster its partnership with automotive giant BMW, Infosys has established a dedicated delivery center in Munich, Germany. This center is designed to provide localized and agile IT support, enhancing collaboration and onsite support for BMW’s IT needs.
The new center forms part of a global service delivery team at Infosys, allowing the tech giant to expand its footprint in the German market. This move comes as Infosys continues to support BMW’s digital transformation and IT infrastructure across its operations.
Infosys's current IT infrastructure operations contract with BMW is active and ongoing, as confirmed up to mid-2025. The contract, which covers maintenance and operation of BMW’s SAP implementation, web and content management systems, business intelligence platform, and system management software, is a testament to Infosys's key role as an IT service provider for BMW.
While the new Munich delivery center will focus on delivering critical IT infrastructure services closer to BMW’s headquarters, Infosys will continue to leverage its global offshore capabilities, primarily from India and other locations. This hybrid model combines local onsite operations in Munich with offshore support, enabling BMW to balance proximity with global scale efficiencies and innovation in IT service delivery.
The establishment of the Munich delivery center follows Infosys's acquisition of Swiss SAP development consultancy Lodestone for $350 million in October of the previous year. This acquisition has undoubtedly contributed to Infosys's ability to deliver high-quality IT services to BMW.
In a related development, Cirquent, a subsidiary that was once part of BMW, was spun out and later acquired by NTT Data in 2008. Thomas Balghiem, the former CEO of Cirquent, is now the EMEA chief executive of NTT Data.
Infosys has also secured a five-year IT infrastructure operations contract from BMW, with some work under the contract expected to be carried out offshore. While specific details on contract length or recent renewals were not explicitly found, the operation status and delivery center establishment as of 2025 are confirmed.
This strategic approach by Infosys, blending local presence with offshore services, reflects its commitment to meeting BMW’s complex IT infrastructure demands efficiently and effectively.
- Infosys's expansion into the German market, through the establishment of a dedicated delivery center in Munich for BMW, showcases its commitment to broadening its reach in the technology and finance sectors.
- The hybrid model of local onsite operations in Munich and offshore support from India, employed by Infosys for BMW's IT needs, underscores the company's ambition to combine business agility with cost-effective technology solutions.
