Blaupunkt, a name synonymous with innovation and quality in the world of consumer electronics, has ceased to exist after nearly a decade of insolvency. The winding-up process was completed in 2025, marking the definitive disappearance of the once-pioneering German company.

The journey towards insolvency began in 2015, with intense international competition, particularly from Japan, being the primary reason. The company, known for its car radios, was unable to keep pace with the rapidly evolving market.

The main location in Hildesheim was closed, resulting in the loss of jobs for the last employees. However, individual divisions of Blaupunkt, such as car audio and engineering, found new owners.

During the winding-up process, creditors had to be satisfied, and license issues had to be clarified. The US company, Established, now holds the rights to the Blaupunkt brand for household appliances and consumer electronics.

Despite the brand's disappearance, retro car radios and consumer electronics continue to be sold under the Blaupunkt name. Today, licensees worldwide use the Blaupunkt name, but it no longer has any connection to the original company that once stood for quality and innovation.

Blaupunkt made history by presenting the first European car radio at the Berlin Radio Fair in 1932. Over the decades, the company became particularly known for its car radios and innovations like traffic radio and navigation systems.

The area of consumer electronics and hi-fi is particularly affected by the decline of companies like Blaupunkt. The company's demise is another piece of German industrial history that has disappeared, leaving a void in the industry.

However, the Blaupunkt brand continues to exist, but only as a license, owned by the US company "Established". As we bid farewell to Blaupunkt, we can't help but reflect on the impact this company had on the world of consumer electronics and the memories it left behind.
