Telecom giant Telesat Communications experiences a 35% surge in SPOT and satellite IoT device sales in the year 2024 compared to the previous year.

UK-based wireless and satellite technology reseller Global Telesat Communications (GTC) has reported a significant surge in sales of Globalstar devices this year, with over 10,800 units sold in 2024 - a 35% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This milestone was celebrated in May, marking a total of 45,000 Globalstar device sales overall for GTC.

Mark O'Connell, the EMEA and APAC general manager of Globalstar, expressed his pride in the partnership with GTC and acknowledged their ongoing success. David Phipps, the managing director of GTC and the CEO of global operations of NextPlat Corp., which owns GTC, reported the extraordinary growth in sales of Globalstar's products.

The growth in sales can be attributed to several key factors. Firstly, Globalstar's ongoing expansion of its satellite network and ground infrastructure has improved service quality and coverage, especially in Asia. This includes the major expansion in Bihoro, Japan, which began construction in 2024.

Secondly, Globalstar's partnership with SpaceX to launch new satellites aboard Falcon 9 rockets has strengthened the company's satellite network, expanding capacity and performance for SPOT and IoT devices.

Thirdly, there is increasing global demand for satellite IoT and communications, particularly in industries such as maritime, aviation, government, and asset tracking. Satellite IoT revenue is expanding relative to cellular IoT, signaling strong market growth in connected remote devices.

Fourthly, Globalstar offers a range of products that cater to industry IoT needs. These include SPOT GPS devices and advanced IoT hardware and software solutions for asset tracking, data analytics, and edge computing.

Lastly, the expansion in Japan and Asia reflects a strategic push into new markets, supported by investments in ground infrastructure and long-term partnerships, contributing to sales growth in the region.

The popularity of devices such as SPOT Gen4, SPOT X, SPOT Trace, and SmartOne C satellite IoT transmitters has also driven the increase in sales. These devices are known for their ease of use and economical price, making them attractive to a wide range of customers, including individual consumers, organizations, utilities suppliers, civil and national defence organizations, humanitarian aid NGOs, and parties operating in regions affected by political instability or conflict.

One notable customer has recently procured a large number of SmartOne C units to monitor oil and gas pipelines. This demonstrates the versatility of Globalstar's commercial IoT devices in various industries.

In a significant development, Globalstar announced the 10,000th rescue worldwide, thanks to the reliable and ubiquitous satellite-enabled tracking and SOS capabilities in Globalstar's product portfolio. This underscores the life-saving potential of these devices in remote and challenging environments.

GTC has seen accelerated demand for Globalstar's commercial IoT devices, particularly the SmartOne C, which is the bestseller in this category. As the demand continues to grow, it is expected that GTC will continue to play a key role in distributing and supporting these innovative satellite communication solutions.

  1. The strategic partnership between Globalstar and SpaceX, through which new satellites are launched on Falcon 9 rockets, has significantly bolstered Globalstar's satellite network, contributing to the growth in sales of data-and-cloud-computing technology in the finance industry.
  2. The expansion of Globalstar's product line, which includes user-friendly and cost-effective satellite IoT transmitters like SPOT Gen4, SPOT X, SPOT Trace, and SmartOne C, has fueled a surge in industry demand, particularly in sectors such as maritime, aviation, government, and asset tracking, thereby increasing GTC's sales in the technology sector.
