Tesla's Refreshed Model Y Now Available in North America

Tesla has introduced the refreshed Model Y to the North American market, with the new Long Range trim currently available for purchase. The prices for the new Model Y are C$69,990 in Canada and US$48,990 in the US, marking a C$1,000 increase compared to the legacy Model Y in both countries.

The refreshed Model Y was first introduced in China and other Asia-Pacific markets in January, followed by Canada and the US a few weeks later. Notably, the Mobile Charger is now included with the purchase of the new Model Y, a change from the previous arrangement where it was an optional purchase.

The online configurator has been updated to remove the Launch Series and add the regular version of the Model Y Long Range. The Launch Series, priced at C$84,990 in Canada and US$59,990 in the US, is no longer available for purchase in North America.

While the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Performance trims are not prominently displayed on Tesla’s website configurator, they are available upon direct inquiry.

  • The RWD Model Y is available mostly as an "off menu" option due to range concerns. It has officially been EPA-rated, but Tesla CEO Elon Musk was not satisfied with its relatively low 244-mile range.
  • The Performance trim is offered as a dual-motor AWD version with an EPA estimated range of about 303 miles, a top speed of 155 mph, and a 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.5 seconds. It is actively listed and available for order in the U.S. and Canada.

The latest 2025 Model Y refresh was announced for the North American market with deliveries beginning in March 2025. This refresh includes both Long Range and Performance trims, but the publicly advertised RWD option remains limited.

According to a report from August 2025, standard RWD Model Y options disappeared from Tesla’s configurator but may still be ordered by special request, remaining somewhat "off-menu". Notably, a long-wheelbase Model Y L variant has been launched in China in August 2025 but is unlikely to be produced in the U.S. before the end of 2026, so it does not affect current North American RWD or Performance trim availability.

In summary, the Performance trim Model Ys are actively sold and delivered in North America as of 2025, while the RWD trims exist but are offered mostly off-menu and with limited visibility due to range concerns. The recent refresh introduced in early 2025 includes these trims, but the publicly advertised RWD option remains limited.

  • The revised Model Y's introduction to the North American market showcases Tesla's emphasis on incorporating advanced technology, as the refreshed Long Range trim in both countries now includes electric-vehicle (EV) technology.
  • As the auto industry progresses towards a more sustainable lifestyle, the availability of the Performance trim Model Y EVs in North America highlights Tesla's commitment to promoting electric-vehicles and reducing carbon emissions.
