Tesla's new Lucid Gravity boasts an impressive 450-mile range, rapid 400kW fast charging, and access to the extensive Tesla Supercharger network.
Lucid Gravity SUV Gains Superior Access to Tesla Superchargers
Lucid Motors has announced innovative charging features for its upcoming Lucid Gravity SUV, setting it apart from other electric vehicles in terms of charging convenience and speed on Tesla's Supercharger network.
The Lucid Gravity comes equipped with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, granting it full and seamless access to Tesla’s Supercharger network without the need for any adapter. This native integration allows the Gravity to utilize Tesla Superchargers with high-tech boost charging capabilities, ensuring faster and more efficient charging compared to vehicles requiring adapters.
In contrast, the Lucid Air sedan, which does not have the native NACS port, requires a Lucid-approved NACS to CCS1 adapter priced at $220 to access Tesla Superchargers. However, the Air's charging rate on Tesla Superchargers is limited to 50 kW peak, significantly lower than Tesla's native V3 Superchargers' capability, due to a mismatch between the Air’s 924-volt system and Tesla’s 400-volt chargers.
The Lucid Gravity's charging technology is compatible with Tesla's V3 Superchargers, allowing it to sustain charging speeds of up to 225 kW. This means that at peak performance, the Lucid Gravity can add 200 miles of range in under 12 minutes.
Moreover, the Gravity's bidirectional charging capabilities allow owners to utilize the vehicle as a power source for other electric vehicles via the NACS connector.
The Lucid Gravity's design focuses on aerodynamic efficiency, with a low 0.24 coefficient of drag contributing to its range and efficiency. The high-performance Grand Touring edition of the Lucid Gravity is available for order now, starting at $94,900. Touring models are set to launch in late 2025, with a starting price of $79,900.
The Lucid Gravity's NACS charge port also supports CCS1 and SAE J1772 adapters, offering added flexibility for charging on various networks. A collaboration with Panasonic has yielded chemistry enhancements that further improve thermal capacity and energy retention in the Lucid Gravity's battery pack.
In summary, the Lucid Gravity SUV offers superior charging convenience and speeds on Tesla Superchargers due to its native NACS port, making it more accessible and faster to charge on that network compared to the Lucid Air.
| Vehicle | Tesla Supercharger Access | Port Type | Adapter Needed | Peak Charging Rate on Tesla Network | |------------------|--------------------------------|--------------------|------------------------|------------------------------------| | Lucid Gravity SUV| Full native access | Native NACS | No | High-speed boost charging supported| | Lucid Air Sedan | Access with adapter | CCS1 (requires adapter)| Yes, $220 NACS to CCS1 adapter | Limited to 50 kW |
The Lucid Gravity SUV, appreciating its native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, offers high-tech boost charging capabilities that enable full and seamless access to Tesla's Supercharger network without the need for any adapter. This advantage sets it apart from the Lucid Air sedan, as the Gravity ensures faster and more efficient charging on Tesla Superchargers compared to the Air, which requires an adapter.
