It's no secret now that Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen, is set to make a significant comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following her apparent demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The question, however, remains unanswered as to how she'll return and what explanation will be given for her survival.
A recent buzz in the Marvel comic community surrounds a revelation in the TVA comic where Wanda is discovered being held captive by the TVA, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. Now, the million-dollar question is whether this comic falls under the canon category or not. Although some writers hint at its possible canonicity, the final answer remains shrouded in mystery.
If we were to accept the comic as canon, it could offer a compelling explanation for Scarlet Witch's return. Set as a direct follow-up to Loki season 2, this TVA comic features characters from various universes, including Captain Carter, Spider-Gwen, and Gambit. Marvel comic artist Pere Perez confirmed that the Wanda depicted in the comic is indeed Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch. Dressed in her familiar costume and with her blackened Darkhold fingers, this Wanda bears a striking resemblance to how we last saw her.
Interestingly, a Scarlet Witch statue was also spotted in the Void in Deadpool and Wolverine, further hinting at this scenario being pruned by the TVA following the Multiverse of Madness. If this interpretation is correct, Wanda would have been captured and imprisoned by the TVA, which could explain her survival and Strange's subsequent decision to halt his pursuit of her.
However, it's crucial to note that this interpretation still remains guesswork as the confirmation of the comic's canonicity is yet to be official. The alternate explanation suggests that the comic may be using the multiverse concept as a "what if" scenario with speculative follow-ups to Loki rather than a literal MCU canon interpretation.
