Three Major Companies Disclose Data Breaches Affecting 3.7 Million
Three major companies have disclosed significant data breaches this week, affecting nearly 3.8 million customers and employees across North America. The breaches, involving Motility Software Solutions, WestJet, and Allianz Life, have exposed sensitive personal information.
Ohio-based Motility Software Solutions suffered a ransomware attack, compromising the personal details of 766,670 individuals. The data potentially exposed includes full names, addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and driver's license numbers.
Canadian airline WestJet confirmed a data breach affecting 1.2 million Americans. The attack, carried out by Scattered Spider in June, may have exposed names, contact details, reservation information, and data regarding victims' relationship with WestJet. However, credit card numbers and passwords were not affected.
Allianz Life confirmed the largest breach, impacting approximately 1.4 million customers due to a break-in at an unnamed third-party customer relationship management (CRM) provider. The compromised data includes names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers, affecting customers, staff, and financial professionals.
All three companies have offered identity protection and credit monitoring services to those affected. These breaches serve as a reminder for individuals to remain vigilant about their personal information and for companies to prioritize robust cybersecurity measures. The total number of affected individuals across the three breaches is estimated to be around 3.7 million.
