Today's Mini Crossword Solutions from The New York Times for December 24th's Puzzle

In case you skipped last Monday's NYT Mini, you can check the solutions here:

The NYT Mini is a compact variation of the newspaper's longer-running and well-known crossword. Typically, it includes between 3 to 5 clues in each direction on a 5x5 grid, but the puzzles can be larger, especially on Saturdays.

Unlike its full-sized counterpart, the NYT Mini crossword is available for free play on the New York Times website or through the NYT Games app. To access previous puzzles in the archive, however, you'll need a subscription to NYT Games.

The NYT Mini offers a quick daily diversion that rarely consumes much time. I usually manage to solve the weekday grid within a minute. But there are times when I struggle with one or two clues and need to unveil the solution.

To support your efforts in avoiding such scenarios, below are the solutions for the NYT Mini Crossword (beware of spoilers ahead):

NYT Mini Crossword Clues and Answers

ACROSS

1) Eve before Christmas

4) Yearn for as much as Christmas cookies - crave

6) Musical instrument in many a Christmas hymn - organ

7) Round lump - mound

8) Wine press - device

DOWN

1) Mistake a proofreader discovers - error

2) Similar to a Christmas wish list with only "toys" - vague

3) Chris from "Knives Out" - actor

4) Offer without charge - complement

5) Reaches its conclusion - ends

As for the Chris clue, either Evans, Pine, or Hemsworth would have fit. They tried to entwine numerous Christmas-related items in this puzzle, with the starter word potentially being the guiding principle. I'm not sure if they'll have one for Christmas Day, but you might need something to engage with on your phone after unwrapping your presents.
