Türkiye Condemns Israel's 'Terrorist Act' Flotilla Interception, Demands Activists' Release

Türkiye has strongly condemned Israel's interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, demanding the immediate release of detained activists and calling it a 'terrorist act'. The incident has led to international outcry and diplomatic efforts.

The interception, which took place near the Gaza Strip, resulted in the detention of 37 Turkish citizens among other international activists. Türkiye's Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş described the intervention as 'a clear violation of international law and a crime'. Communications Director Burhanettin Duran went further, stating that the incident will leave a 'dark stain' in history.

Türkiye has launched an investigation into the matter and called on the U.N. and international organizations to lift the blockade on Gaza and ensure freedom of navigation. It has also sought coordination with nations whose citizens were involved, including Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, and others, to push for the release of detainees. The activists are currently being taken to Ashdod Port.

Despite the interception, one ship, Mikeno, managed to enter Gaza waters. Türkiye's Foreign Ministry has condemned the attack and vowed legal action against the perpetrators. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz described the assault as 'unlawful and barbaric'.

The interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla has strained relations between Türkiye and Israel. Türkiye continues to push for the release of detained activists and a lifting of the blockade on Gaza. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing tensions in the region and the need for diplomatic solutions.
