Welcome to this week's roundup of the biggest gaming news, reviews, and hardware deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team. Here are some highlights that caught our attention.

Dawn of War: Definitive Edition and Its Modding Issues

The highly anticipated Dawn of War: Definitive Edition launched on August 14, 2025, to much fanfare. Known for its sense of scale and the potential for mods like Unification to expand this further, the Definitive Edition has shifted to a 64-bit exe, making it a more stable platform for modding. However, as of late August 2025, a first major patch for the Definitive Edition with fixes for popular mods like Unification and Ultimate Apocalypse has not been officially announced with a specific release date yet.

Mod teams such as Unification have indicated ongoing patch development and compatibility efforts but have not specified when these fixes will be included in an official game update. Meanwhile, community mods like X4 Unit Cap appeared soon after release, but that was a standalone mod release on August 20, 2025—not an official game patch.

The Unification team, led by Kekoulis, Shogun of Unification, is waiting for the Definitive Edition to be patched before releasing an update. Kekoulis has written a lengthy document detailing the Crucible mod's issues with the Definitive Edition. Meanwhile, the Ultimate Apocalypse mod team is currently working on a compatibility update.

Best Gaming Hardware for August 2025

For those looking for a desktop gaming setup, the HP Omen 35L takes the crown as the best gaming PC. For handheld gaming PC enthusiasts, the Lenovo Legion Go S SteamOS ed. is the way to go. For mini PC fans, the Minisforum AtomMan G7 PT is the best choice. Lastly, for virtual reality gaming, the Meta Quest 3 is the best VR headset on the market.
