In a significant move to bolster the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing industry, Graphite One Resources has joined forces with Lucid and other domestic battery materials developers in a strategic collaboration known as the Minerals for National Automotive Competitiveness Collaboration (MINAC).

The alliance, which includes companies from the critical minerals and automotive sectors, is part of a broader strategy to establish a fully U.S.-based battery materials supply chain. The goal is to create a secure, sustainable, and domestic supply chain for minerals critical to automotive manufacturing, including those used in batteries and EV motors.

By reducing reliance on foreign sources and strengthening U.S.-based mineral production, MINAC aims to bolster the competitiveness and sustainability of the U.S.-based EV manufacturing industry. The coalition is a joint industry effort, with Graphite One Resources and Lucid Motors being key players.

Lucid Motors, a prominent EV manufacturer, recently announced their involvement in the collaborative, highlighting their commitment to advancing critical mineral production for EV manufacturing. Other participating companies focus on mining, processing, and supply of rare earths and critical minerals related to battery and automotive applications.

Graphite One's strategy includes a circular economy approach, with a recycling facility being the third link in this strategy. The company's Graphite Creek deposit, recognized by the US Geological Survey as the largest graphite deposit in the U.S. and among the largest in the world, forms the basis of this plan.

The collaboration follows a natural graphite supply agreement between MINAC, Lucid, and Graphite One, announced in Anchorage, Alaska. The plan also includes building an advanced graphite material and battery anode material manufacturing plant in Warren, Ohio, where a recycling facility to reclaim graphite and other battery materials will be co-located.

This strategic coalition, composed of firms like Lucid Motors and Graphite One, is focused on developing domestic critical minerals resources to support U.S. electric vehicle and automotive manufacturing competitiveness and sustainability goals. The collaboration is a significant step towards establishing a robust and self-reliant U.S. battery materials supply chain for the EV industry.
