UK Space Agency Backs AccelerComm-Radisys Project for Next-Gen Satellite 5G

The UK Space Agency has backed a collaborative project between AccelerComm and Radisys Corporation, fostering international cooperation in space technology. The project, supported by the International Bilateral Fund, aims to develop next-generation Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) by integrating 5G base stations on satellites.

The project, led by David Helfgott, CEO of AccelerComm, and Munish Chhabra, Senior Vice President at Radisys, seeks to address challenges in delivering 5G satellite broadband from a power and performance efficient gNodeB/base station embedded on a regenerative payload. The collaboration, supported by the UK Space Agency's International Bilateral Fund (IBF), will see AccelerComm's Layer 1 (PHY) technology integrated with Radisys' lab in India for joint research and demonstrations to customers and partners worldwide.

The UK Space Agency, through the IBF, has a track record of supporting successful international space projects. Professor Anu Ojha, the agency's International Director, highlights the fund's previous achievements and the potential impact of this new partnership on the UK space sector. The project also aligns with the IBF's goal of fostering ambitious partnerships between UK organizations and international space entities.

The UK Space Agency's funding will facilitate the integration of AccelerComm's and Radisys' technologies, offering a complete package to satellite customers. This collaboration, led by David Helfgott and Munish Chhabra, strengthens UK's international partnerships in space technologies and paves the way for the next generation of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs).
