Unraveling the Superior Sound Quality of OTT Plugins: Grab Your Free Download Now!
Rockin' the electronic music scene with baddass beats, the legendary OTT plugin's got your back! You might've wondered how it works, and yes, it's a game-changer.
Welcome to this no-frills guide to the OTT plugin, where we'll unleash all its secrets and blow your mind. Grab your headphones, sit tight, and hold on to your creativity!
The OTT plugin, a beast from Xfer Records, is the perfect partner for your audio goodies. It's like the Swiss Army knife of sound sculpting, combining compression and EQ in one compact, fierce package. Just imagine—EQ and compression in a single stomp!
By slicing incoming audio into three parts—highs, mids, and lows—the OTT plugin flexes its multiband compressor muscles, working that juice into each part separately. This fine-grained control allows you to shape the sound on a whole new level compared to run-of-the-mill compressors.
So you're totally in charge, deciding if you need all three parts or just two—simply toggle the Low or High parts off if you're feeling feisty. Customize the crossover frequencies between those bad boys to tailor the plugin to your signal.
That's just the beginning! The OTT plugin's main controls will make you feel like you own a secret power.
Get ready to master those main controls:
- Bypass Switch: Bypass certain frequency bands if you don't feel like processing the whole shebang. Just flip the switch next to the name, and the dry sound rides in.
- Solo Band: Zero in on a specific frequency range with this feature. Just imagine finding that hidden detail deep in your audio that you never knew existed!
- Input Gains: Get more juice flowing into the compressor by adjusting these puppies. Increase input gains to progressively squeeze the sound like a juicy orange.
- Soft Knee: This baby makes compression less abrupt by introducing it gradually as it approaches the threshold.
- RMS/Peak Switch: Choose between a slower RMS compression for a more natural sound or a quicker peak compression for added punch and aggression.
Central display, this little cornerstone pure magic: Set your ratios, thresholds, attacks, and releases right here. On either side, there are control blocks—on the left, it's sub control city, and on the right, you find that above control area. Adjust the block sizes to tweak the thresholds, and slide it up or down to fiddle with the ratios.
Using four types of dynamics control, you can finesse your sounds like a pro:
- Downward Compression: Making the loud parts quieter (classic compression style)
- Upward Expansion: Making the loud parts louder
- Upward Compression: Making the quiet parts louder
- Downward Expansion: Making the quiet parts even quieter (your new best friend when trying to eliminate background noise)
Finally, the output gain lets you adjust the volume for each band, allowing you to color the sound like a legit artist with valid street cred.
For those who cruise Ableton Live, OTT is already a staple part of that silent disco. But what about those non-Ableton users out there? Pity not, for the OTT plugin has got you covered! Stalwart plugin developer Steve Duda at Xfer Records has whipped up an epic emulation of the preset for the likes of FL Studio and Logic Pro.
So, what's this OTT preset all about? Let's dive in!
The OTT preset is actually its own name, hiding within the Multiband Dynamics audio effect. This thing is boasting hefty power way beyond a typical multiband compressor—a force to be reckoned with!
Before we dive into the Twilight Zone, let's clear one thing up. The Low-Mid crossover is set at 88.3Hz on the OTT preset, instead of 250Hz on the default preset. This lets the low band tackle the sub-frequency range.
Next, the input gains give each band an extra 5.2dB, really filling the compressor to the brim.
The real fun happens when you check out the settings of the individual bands. For the high, mid, and low bands, ratio is set at Infinity:1 (brickwall limiting), resulting in crushing sound. The mid and low bands have a ratio of 1:66.7, providing heavy limiting. This means the sound will be seriously squashed, especially the high end. As for the thresholds, they are all set extremely low, ensuring compression on every band.
And things get even wilder below—the low and high bands get ten electric digits of output gain each, putting the mid-band at 5.7dB.
The OTT plugin boasts a hidden gem of a feature, too: control over upward and downward compression. Want to turn up the heat? Hold CTRL and click any parameter on the frequency bands to disable upward compression. This feels like being in a band where everyone's going at it full blast together.
Now you know the secrets to the OTT plugin, it's time to test its might on your work! Let's see what sounds like when we hit it with the OTT hammer.
Go ahead, give it a whirl, and let the magic unfold! Embrace your inner sound engineer, and supercharge your music with this beast of a plugin.
Happy compressing! 👅🤘
