Unwired Power Eliminates Desktop Cables
Revamped Lab: Wireless Powered, Cable-Free Nirvana
Many folks detest cables, while others are indifferent, yet prefer cable-bound peripherals over the inconvenience of charging their devices. Matt, from DIYPerks, strikes the right chord with this wireless power-centric, cable-free desk setup.
The secret ingredient? An evaluation kit from Etherdyne Technologies, Inc (ETI)! This package includes a 100W RF power supply and a looping power antenna, subtly embedded within Matt’s desk. This system operates by generating an RF electromagnetic field that delivers power wirelessly to various gadgets on the desk. It works just like the inductive charging system you might find on your smartphone, but at a higher frequency and larger scale, allowing power transmission beyond the desktop surface.
Matt utilized the ETI kit by building powerful, RF-empowered receivers into a myriad of devices, ranging from a lamp, heated mug, microphone, speakers, and even a custom monitor base. The icing on the cake? A non-Bluetooth RF microphone, fine-tuned for studio-quality sound, and Bluetooth-synced speakers for crystal-clear stereo output. To enable wireless data transmission for the monitor, Matt leaned on a wireless HDMI dongle. Check it out for yourself in the video below.
Naysayers might argue about energy consumption. While a 10W base draw is a slight hiccup, the wireless system’s overall efficiency could rival, or even surpass, that of a typical battery-powered wireless setup, given all the power-draining inefficiencies involved in charging and discharging batteries.
Although this revelation may not outshine the previously-built, hidden-in-the-desk PC or the triple-screen luggable, it's still an amusing and ingenious construction. Enjoy the compact freedom offered by this masterful blend of tech and innovation!
