Upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 9: Expected Features and Desired Improvements

Samsung is gearing up for the release of its next-generation smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch 9. Here's what we know so far about the upcoming device.

Design and Size

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to retain the squircle-shaped design introduced with the Watch 8 series, offering a comfortable and modern look. It will reportedly come in two sizes, maintaining the 5ATM water-resistant rating and MIL-STD-810H protective standards.

Processing Power and Efficiency

There's speculation that Samsung will introduce a faster or new 3nm Exynos chip or a more efficient coprocessor to handle background tasks and AI, enhancing overall performance and battery efficiency. However, it's uncertain if the battery capacity will increase beyond the Watch 8's 325/435mAh, with Samsung aiming for a battery life of around 40 hours.

Health Tracking

Health tracking will continue to be a major focus for the Galaxy Watch 9. The device is likely to use the BioActive sensor, supporting advanced health metrics like the Antioxidant Index, Running Coach, Vascular Load, and AGEs Index, introduced by the Galaxy Watch 8. There's a hope that Samsung can accommodate wider bands by the Galaxy Watch 9 launch, making it more comfortable for users.

Connectivity and Software

The Galaxy Watch 9 might incorporate ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, enabling features such as digital car keys, watch/phone unlocking, and improved device-finding tools. Samsung is also expected to continue integrating Google's Gemini AI assistant and Wear OS improvements. There's speculation about a potential Samsung Health subscription service, offering enhanced health and wellness features, but specific details are yet to be confirmed.

Possible New Models

In addition to the Galaxy Watch 9, Samsung might release a cheaper Galaxy Watch FE 2 in 2026, following Apple's release pattern. There's also a possibility of a Watch 9 Pro resurrection, but it's unlikely due to the Ultra's key selling points.

The Future of Batteries

Samsung is reportedly working on all-solid-state batteries, referred to as "Dream Batteries," for future devices, including the Galaxy Watch 10 in 2027. These batteries are hoped to offer longer battery life and faster charging times, but they may be more expensive than typical lithium-ion batteries.

The Galaxy Watch 8 is currently available with trade-in deals and cash-back credit, featuring a brighter 1.34-inch display and the latest Samsung Health tools. Keep an eye out for updates on the Galaxy Watch 9 as more information becomes available.
