Upgrade to iOS 26 on iPhone: Supported Devices Revealed

In a recent announcement at WWDC 2025, Apple unveiled its latest iOS update, iOS 26. Here's what we know so far about this exciting new software and the devices that will support it.

iOS 26 is set to be available for download in July, offering a range of improvements and a fresh new 'Liquid Glass' look. However, it's important to note that three iPhone models will not receive the iOS 26 update: those that received the iOS 18 update last year.

The final version of iOS 26 will be available for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR in Fall, likely September. The iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16e, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone SE (2nd generation), and iPhone SE (3rd generation) are all expected to support iOS 26. To use the update, an iPhone must feature an A13 Bionic chip or newer.

As for iPadOS 26 and watchOS 26, details regarding compatible devices and release dates have yet to be announced. However, other Apple devices may also receive software upgrades alongside these operating system updates.

When iOS 26 is officially announced, you can check its compatibility by visiting Apple's official website or the iOS section during the announcement. Additionally, tech news sources like MacRumors, 9to5Mac, or The Verge often provide detailed compatibility lists. You can also look in your device's Settings app: when the update becomes available, go to Settings > General > Software Update to see if your iPhone can update.

It's worth noting that the downloading of the iOS 26 public beta may contain bugs and is not recommended for those who depend on their iPhone for vital communication.

According to Apple's past patterns, new iOS versions usually support iPhones that are up to 5–6 years old. Older models gradually lose support as new software demands more advanced hardware.
