USB-compatible memory card readers now undergoing testing for SD and microSD card usage, featuring USB-A and USB-C connectors.
In the ever-evolving world of technology, microSD cards have become an essential storage solution for various devices. From smartphones to cameras, these tiny memory cards offer a convenient way to expand storage capacity. But what about the readers? We've put several card readers to the test to help you find the perfect fit for your needs.
First, let's talk about the storage capacity of microSD cards. The largest available cards hold an impressive 2TB, providing ample space for your multimedia files. Interestingly, 256GB microSD cards, offering more than enough storage for many users, can be found for less than 20 euros.
When it comes to card readers, we tested a variety of options from well-known manufacturers such as Digitus, DSRKE, Inter-Tech, isy, Sabrent, Ugreen, and uni. The card readers from Sabrent and uni were found to be identical in our tests, offering reliable performance.
For those seeking a compact option, the Inter-Tech A-C reader for microSD cards is a great choice. This small reader features a hidden microSD slot within the USB-A connector's plug, making it an ideal solution for devices with limited space.
Universal card readers with two connectors (USB-A and USB-C) are practical for data transfer when using older computers with USB-A ports. These readers support both SD and microSD formats, making them versatile solutions for various devices.
The price range for most of the card readers in our test was surprisingly affordable, with most costing a maximum of ten euros. However, the isy card reader was found to be significantly more expensive, priced at 15 euros.
It's worth noting that the electronics retailer Pearl's card reader was not included in our test due to its promise of support for memory cards up to 128GB. Unfortunately, the largest microSD cards are not supported by the Pearl's card reader.
Major manufacturers of card reader devices supporting USB-A along with SD or microSD formats include SanDisk, Transcend, Anker, Kingston, and UGREEN. These brands offer a wide range of options to suit various needs and budgets.
In conclusion, whether you're in need of a compact, affordable, or versatile microSD card reader, our test results provide valuable insights to help you make an informed decision. Happy storage expanding!
