Userbase expansion marked another significant monthly milestone for Threads

In a recent update, Meta's social media platform Threads has surpassed an impressive milestone, reaching over 400 million monthly active users (MAU) as of mid-2025. This growth was confirmed by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, who shared that Threads grew from 350 million MAU in April 2025 to over 400 million in just a few months, indicating an addition of roughly 50 million users within a recent quarter.

Threads has shown strong momentum, with a significant uptick in daily active users (DAU). In June 2025, Threads had approximately 115.1 million daily active users, marking a 127.8% increase in DAU year over year. This growth not only indicates an expanding user base but also increasing user engagement on the platform.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the robust growth of Threads, stating that the platform added 50 million monthly active users in the last quarter. While the CEO's direct quote in the search results is limited, the growth figures align with his recent announcements and overall company communication.

Threads is positioned as a rapidly growing competitor to X (formerly Twitter), currently trailing X’s reported 600 million MAU but closing the gap, with Threads growing while X’s numbers have reportedly declined or stagnated in some regions.

The growth of Threads can be attributed to its integration with Instagram and significant algorithm improvements. In addition, Threads has introduced improved Insights metrics to aid creators in understanding their audience, and Direct Messages (DMs) are being introduced to the platform.

As Threads continues to grow, it offers a unique experience for its users. One user shares their personal experience of finding community and overcoming loneliness through Threads. In a recent update on Tuesday, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, shared Threads' monthly users. The EU region, however, has been experiencing a decrease in users on a different platform. Despite this challenge, Threads remains a promising platform for social media users worldwide.
