Yali Capital Bolsters Indian Deep Tech Landscape with ₹893 Crore Fund
Yali Capital, a SEBI-registered Category II Alternative Investment Fund (AIF), has successfully closed its maiden deep tech-focused fund at ₹893 crores (Rs US Dollar 104 Million), significantly exceeding its original target. The fund aims to support innovation in semiconductors, AI, robotics, genomics, aerospace, and smart manufacturing across India.
Investment Sectors
Yali Capital targets sectors within the deep tech domain, including semiconductors, AI, robotics, genomics, aerospace and surveillance technologies, and smart manufacturing.
Fund and Investment Stages
The fund covers both early-stage startups (Seed, Series A) and late-stage startups (Series D and beyond). Approximately 70% of the fund capital is allocated for early-stage investments, while the remaining 30% is reserved for growth-stage deals. Average investment cheques range from $2 million to $10 million, with ownership targets from 20% at seed stage to around 5% in late-stage deals.
Portfolio Companies and Strategy
Yali Capital has already made five investments spanning chip design to AI technologies and aims to expand its portfolio to eight companies by the end of 2025. The fund's pipeline indicates a broad commitment to developing India's deep tech ecosystem by backing companies at different growth phases.
Global Investors and Backers
The capital was raised primarily through word-of-mouth, without bankers or distributors. Approximately 78% of the capital comes from Indian sources, including entrepreneurs, family offices, fund-of-funds like SIDBI's FFS and the Self-Reliant India Fund, plus corporate backers such as Infosys and Qualcomm. Internationally, the fund attracts global venture capital through its SEBI-registered AIF and GIFT City feeder fund structure. Industry veteran Lip-Bu Tan serves as an investor and advisor, endorsing Yali Capital's vision of nurturing India’s deep tech landscape.
