WhatsApp Launches Click-to-Chat Ads for Direct Business Conversations

WhatsApp is rolling out a new ad format, click-to-message ads, that will allow users to directly enter a business chat. This feature is currently limited to certain regions.

Meta, WhatsApp's parent company, has been expanding its advertising options on the platform. The new ad format builds on the June launch of Status ads, which appear between full-screen updates from friends. These ads will now include a chat call-to-action (CTA), allowing users to initiate a conversation with the business directly from the ad.

The new ad formats, including ads in Status and promoted channels, prioritise user privacy. They use data like country, language, and channel subscriptions but do not share phone numbers or personal chat content with advertisers. This rollout applies broadly, with no specific regional restrictions mentioned.

Meta is transforming WhatsApp into a stronger ad channel by blending full-screen Status placements with direct chat options. The new click-to-message ads are now available in certain regions, with plans to expand access to more advertisers in the future. This could help businesses connect more personally with users through WhatsApp's conversational ad formats.
