Wind energy company Badenova files authorizations for the development of seven wind farms
In a significant stride towards a greener future, Badenova AG & Co. KG, a leading energy supplier based in Freiburg, Germany, has submitted permit applications for seven wind energy projects in Baden-Württemberg. These projects, if approved, could potentially supply climate-friendly electricity to around 70,000 households.
The planned wind farms are strategically distributed across five districts in Baden-Württemberg: Schwarzwald-Baar, Rottweil, Ortenau, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, and Heidenheim. The first commissioning is planned for 2027, with the majority of projects expected to be connected to the grid by 2029.
Badenova is actively developing these wind farm projects as part of its broader commitment to advance the region's energy transition. While specific project-level details such as location names, turbine capacities, and timelines are not extensively detailed, it is clear that Badenova is heavily engaged in scaling renewable energy infrastructure.
The wind farm developments supplement other renewable initiatives, such as the ongoing construction of a hydrogen pipeline infrastructure in Albbruck, Baden-Württemberg, indicating a holistic approach to sustainable energy that combines wind, solar, and hydrogen technologies.
The seven wind energy projects, with a total of 23 wind energy installations, have a planned total capacity of over 150 megawatts. The investment volume for these projects is approximately 250 million euros. Over the 25-year lifespan of the projects, around 75 million euros in rent, trade tax, and municipal levies will flow into the region.
The wind turbines, with an average total height of 250 meters per installation, are equivalent to 15 Berlin TV towers stacked on top of each other. The combined cable routes of the projects would be around 55 kilometers long, the distance from Freiburg to Basel.
The two companies partnered in the development and implementation of these wind energy projects, BadenovaERNEUERBARE (a subsidiary of Badenova AG & Co. KG) and DGE (The Green Emission House), have managed around 200 wind energy installations and have expertise in planning, approval, construction, and operation.
Badenova, being the largest energy supply company in South Baden, aims to be climate-neutral by 2035 and to install one gigawatt of renewable energy generation capacity, with at least 400 megawatts coming from new wind power installations in the region. The wind farms are expected to generate around 230 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually.
The recently submitted applications are expected to be reviewed by the responsible authorities within the next 6 to 18 months. As Badenova moves forward with these ambitious wind energy projects, it continues to demonstrate its commitment to a sustainable and renewable energy future for Baden-Württemberg.
