Yamaha finalizes purchase of electric bike motor technology from Brose Company
Yamaha Acquires Brose's E-Bike Business in Strategic Move
Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd has officially completed the acquisition of Brose Antriebstechnik GmbH & Co. KG’s e-bike drive business on August 1, 2025, following the necessary antitrust approval. The deal, announced in the spring, marks a significant move for both companies as Yamaha takes over Brose's e-bike market share and establishes its own development base in Europe.
The acquisition, which was subject to antitrust approval, was essential for the deal to proceed. Both parties obtained the regulatory consent before the deal took effect. However, details about the purchase price have not been publicly disclosed.
Under the new brand name Qore, Yamaha will operate the acquired business from Brose’s former Berlin headquarters. The company's subsidiary, Motor eBike Systems (YMESG), will take over the business with plans to leverage the existing development resources there to design new products. This move will help Yamaha to better respond to local market demands and increase operational efficiency.
Brose, on the other hand, will support the transition during the initial phase to ensure continuity for employees, customers, and partners. The company is refocusing on its core automotive business and intends to reduce jobs significantly due to prior financial losses. However, the 110 e-bike employees in Berlin have been taken on by Yamaha, securing their positions for now.
In summary, the deal between Yamaha and Brose was completed on August 1, 2025, post antitrust approval. The purchase price remains undisclosed. Yamaha will operate the acquired business from Brose’s former Berlin headquarters under the new Qore brand, using existing development resources. Brose will provide defined services to ensure continuity during the transition, while Yamaha retains the 110 Berlin employees. Brose is refocusing on its automotive business with planned job cuts elsewhere.
